Week 15 StoryLab: Twine story software

The Twine story software is interesting.  It's like an event trigger software.  It reminds me of IFTTT, "If This Then That", which is a software for home automation such as smart lights and smart outlets.  I've been interested in IFTTT for a while, and I'm looking to implement it in my future home.  Since it's the last week though, I can't really use Twine for another story.  However, on the bright side, this class isn't my life.  I think that Twine has its uses, and I think that it could someday be useful for me for another class similar to a powerpoint presentation.  It has its use, and I think that there's a high probability that it will be good for a future class.  The Publishing Twine was actually really interesting to me.  I like how Twine gives me a .html file which I can integrate into OU Create.  I've tinkered with OU Create before a while ago with website files since I might someday want to upload a website for my own pers...

Famous Last Words: Energy to finish

Image
This week, I ended up doing both readings of the class in order to get the grade that I wanted.  It wasn't too bad.  It's just reading and then taking notes.  My other classes are rolling to an end.  I had a lot of projects and assignments due this week since it's dead-week. However, I'm glad that I'm finished with my assignments in my other classes.  But I guess the pain isn't over yet until I finish taking my final exams next week.  I messed up too much in a couple of my other classes, and I can't get an A anymore which is a huge bummer to me, but I tell myself that I will just pick it up next semester and try harder.  I started the keto diet last week, so it's been about 10 days since I've been doing it.  It makes me so sad.  If you remember from my introduction post, I love to cook food.  This also extends to eating food as well.  The keto diet highly restricts the foods that I can eat, and it's very upsetting to me.  I kno...

Wikipedia Trail - Brothers Grimm

Image
Brothers Grimm  As a child, we were subject to innocent portrayals of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales.  I know that the stories are more gruesome than we actually know, so it's cool to read about the brothers. Walt Disney  I know that Walt Disney created most of the innocent portrayals of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales.  For me, Walt Disney is something of a constant for me.  I never really think about Walt Disney or the company.  It's just always been there, and I don't question it. National Film Registry  Most of the movies that I like are the classics.  So I was interested in this Wikipedia article because I think that it's a good source of what movies I might think about watching next. Die Hard  I've been meaning to watch this movie for such a long time.  Like, I definitely know it's a good movie, I just haven't gotten to watching it.  I wanted to read the Wikipedia, just so that I know what kind of movie it is....

Reading Extra Notesw: Andersan Fairy Tales

The Princess and the Pea Fairy Tales and Stories by Hans Christian Andersen A prince wanted to marry a princess but could not find a real one. A storm happened, and a real princess knocked at the gate.  The queen rigged the bed with a pea, and so the princess did not have a good sleep.  The prince married her because she could feel the difference with the pea.  The pea was put into a museum. The Emperor’s New Suit Fairy Tales and Stories by Hans Christian Andersen An emperor wanted the best clothes and hired weavers to make something.  They convince the emperor that it is so fine that it is invisible to anyone unfit.  They all pretend to be working on the clothing.  All the ministers claim that they can see the clothing being worked on.  The emperor wears the "suit" and all the townspeople claim they can see the suit.  A child in the crowd says that he isn't wearing anything and the emperor realizes it. The Brave Tin Soldier ...

Learning Challenge: Watch for Empathy

Image
One of my TA's was very patient with one of the other students in the classroom.  They expressed a lot of empathy for the student by understanding their frustration with the subject and being patient with them.  I learned that empathy isn't an action you take.  Empathy is a lifestyle that can envelop every single action that we partake in.  No matter what we do, we can always seek to understand those around us and have our actions benefit them.  I want to learn how to always be empathetic and genuine towards those around me. Empathy is putting someone else's thoughts into your own thoughts in order to further understand their feelings.

Growth Mindset: Acronym

Be Looking Over Onward Mentally The word "bloom" denotes a transition from a premature stage to a mature stage.  We often think about flowers blooming after they get enough sunlight and water.  We, humans, are similar.  However, the difference between us and flowers is that our sunlight and water aren't given to us freely.  We need to constantly look forward towards the next bit of sunlight or water.  To grow or bloom, you have to want it.  You have to keep looking for it.

Tech Tip: Canvas Profile

For my canvas profile, I changed the avatar picture to a personal picture of myself.  I'd just feel kind of weird putting a different picture that's not myself.  I added my email to my biography because I wouldn't use the biography for anything else really.  I don't really need to change anything else, since I go by my own name.

Week 15 Brothers Grimm (Hunt) Reading Notes B

Grimm: Bearskin Household Tales by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm A young man finished war but had nowhere else to go except to his brothers.  He was rejected with only his gun.  He went to go think under a circle of trees.  He heard a strange man with a green coat.  The man promised him wealth if he were to be found fearless.  The man told him to fire at a bear.  The strange man then told him that if he were to wear the bearskin for seven years without cleaning himself, he would have money in his pocket.  But if he died within the seven years, the man, actually the devil, would claim him.  He agreed to those conditions.  Within the first four years, it was easy to get shelter through the money, however after, he could not get shelter anymore from the inn.  He then gave money to the innkeeper who was having financial issues. The innkeeper was gratified and allowed him to marry one of his daughters.  The two older daughters fle...

Learning Challenge: Happiness Jar part 2

Image
Last week, I started the "Happiness Jar" learning challenge.  I decided to write down things that made me happy onto the notes on my phone.  It was pretty hard to do, since this season of the semester is very busy for everyone, and it does indeed get very stressful.  However, the few things that I wrote down made me more thankful for the good things that happened to me.  I'm not sure if I'm the only one who experiences this, but I tend to be more happy about something if I'm concretely thankful for it.  The Happiness Jar reminds me to be more thankful of my experiences. I have more happiness whenever I am thankful .

Growth Mindset: Acronym

Reach Even Deeper Objectively This week, my Acronym is "reach even deeper, objectively", or REDO.  It gives a good reminder that whenever we redo something, we need to reach deeper objectively.  By that, I mean that we increase our knowledge on the fundamentals and essence of the subject.  We objectively try to improve ourselves, rather than redoing and getting the same outcome.

Fake Social media Tech Tip

I used Facebook from prankmenot.com because the other site was being wonky.

Learning Challenge: Happiness Jar

Image
Even though Thanksgiving has just now passed, it's always supposed to be a season of giving thanks year-round.  My plan is to do what's most convenient for me: I'm going to jot down what I'm thankful for and what makes me happy in the notes on my phone.  Jotting these things down overall make you more thankful for the life that's been given to us.   I sometimes find myself as simple as a stick figure , but I'm still happy at least

Growth Mindset: Acronym

I Don't Even Assume I haven't done an acronym in a few weeks, so I thought I'd do one.  My acronym of "idea" reads "I don't even assume".  I think that's what an idea should have.  We're so quick to dismiss ideas because we assume the worst of them.  However, dismissing ideas doesn't allow us to grow.  It only hinders us and lowers our field of vision.

Google Define Tech Tip

Image
When I usually write things for any class, I find myself having words come up to my head as I write.  Sometimes, these are pretty big words, and I find myself not using the word appropriately.  So a tool that I use a lot is Google to define words that I need to check up the exact definition on.  I don't really use the etymology function of it much though since I'm not too interested in that.

Growth Mindset: Beyond School

Image
At the start of the year, I became involved with the Esports Association at OU.  This organization deals with competitive gaming as well as outreach.  I am playing on the varsity team for the League of Legends development in the organization.  Some background, League of Legends is the most played video game in the world.  In 2016, there were estimated over 100 million active players every month, which is pretty huge.  The game is very competitive and team-based.  It revolves around good decision making and skill.  For me, playing on the OU varsity team has been a treat.  There's so much to think about in regards to your own team.  Personally, I try to be the best that I can be for my team, so that leads me to have a strong growth mindset towards learning more about the game.  It requires discipline and time to continue to compete at a high level.  I spend hours every week practicing at the game to play better and be the best I can b...

Week 13 Story: The Man in The Suit

Image
Anakin Skywalker was born a slave with his mother, Shmi Skywalker.   He had no father by birth, but he was instead conceived by the midi-chlorians,  microscopic organisms that live within every living organism and can speak with The Force.  Ani, a nickname for Anakin, worked for his master, Watto, in his junk shop.  As a slave, Ani was allowed to have many sorts of hobbies including pod racing and droid robotics.  He spent his free time creating and developing his very own droid, C-3PO.  In his hobby of pod racing. Ani proves that he is both talented at pod race design as well as pod race piloting.  He builds his own pod race to take involvement in local pod races in his home planet Tatooine. One day, Ani meets Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi Master shopping at Watto's junk shop.  Feeling as if slavery holds a lifetime of joy and happiness from his and his mother, Ani pleads and begs for Qui-Gon to use his Jedi powers and free Ani and his mother from slaveh...

Tech Tip: Troubleshooting

Sometimes I get a problem when signing into school websites such as One, Canvas, etc, and I get an error message that doesn't make too much sense.  Usually, it's because of cookies or cache.  An easy short-term solution is to open up the browser in incognito to log in.  It ignores your cookies or cache and settings in case you just need to check something in a hurry and don't have time to delete your cookies, cache, or restart your computer.

Tech Tip: Canvas Notifications

This week, I decided to do the Canvas Notifications Tech Tip.  I ended up changing many of my options.  Some options, such as due dates and grading, were set to go on a daily reminder, however, I would much prefer to have them come to my email immediately.  Some options, such as scheduling, I don't really use, so I set them not to notify me.  The Canvas Notifications settings are really useful so that you can get the perfect fine tuning you need.  Some information is needed urgently, while some information isn't important at all, so it really helps that you get to choose differently for each different individual option.

Learning Challenge: Deskercise Follow-Up

Workout At Home by the Washington Post The deskercises I've been using are "Punching", "Side Lunges", and "Walking".  Usually, when I get drowsy while doing school work, I will take a quick nap.  These deskercises are a great alternative to taking those quick naps whenever it's not feasible to take a nap.

Growth Mindset Cats

Image
I like this cat  because I think it's very true.  It's true about the picture too.  Some older people don't understand how to use a phone or computer because they just haven't tried to mess around and be curious about it.  I usually find that the more curious a person is, the easier they understand any material.  I also think that these cats represent a very important idea to always hold.  It's always important to not have different views but to be able to look at it in different views.  That way, you don't necessarily lose your ideology, but you understand other's ideology and adapt your own ideology based on what you truly believe.  We never fully know ourselves.  We can only experience events that draw ourselves out.
